An active participant of Pakistan Movement, he used his writings to inspire people for the cause of Pakistan. A prolific Urdu poet, who is well known for authoring Pakistan's national anthem, Kashmiri anthem Watan Hamara Azad Kashmir, Shahnama-e-Islam and many patriotic songs during 1965 India-Pakistan War. After migrating to Pakistan in 1947, he joined the freedom fighters in early 1948, fought for the freedom of Kashmir and was wounded.
