Army Institute of Military History

Pakistan Military History Legacy Series

Since the institute’s establishment in 2017, our research faculty has undertaken extensive research into Pakistan’s military history, and history of the Pakistan Army. This rich history is broken down into eras, each under study with a dedicated faculty member, and extends well into the past. This effort has included study of available sources– written, oral, audio, video and field visits–not limited to local sources. This effort is reinforced by our oral history preservation programme, wherein veterans, descendants and witnesses are interviewed, and those interviews transcripted in both hard and digital form.

The results of this research appear as a six monthly magazine (Bugle and Trumpet), monographs, books, primers, charts and diagrams, artwork, and facilitation of, and support to, efforts of others interested in the subject. Details are available elsewhere on this website.

The research faculty delivers lectures, widely and extensively, within the Army, addressing gentleman cadets and recruits under training, officers in garrisons country-wide, and those undergoing courses in military schools including Command & Staff College Quetta. Beyond the Army, the faculty delivers lectures to interns at the institute, to visiting delegations and student groups, and also to senior classes at universities. We also conduct joint seminars with foreign institutes within the domain of warfare and military history.

We are happy to open these lectures, organised into a Pakistan Military History Legacy Series, to recognised universities. Each module has a distinct theme, and includes a varying number of lectures by one or more faculty members. Details are below. Recognised universities that are interested, may contact us as indicated below, to discuss the prospect of delivering one or more modules at respective campuses, or at the institute. As more lectures are prepared, they will be added to these modules.
