From the Battlefield to the Archive

Oral history is a method of historical documentation, using interviews with living survivors of the time being investigated. Oral history preservation program (OHPP) is one of the foremost activities and a permanent feature of AIMH, which is conducted both outdoors and at AIMH, in studio especially designed and equipped for the purpose. War veterans, descendants and witnesses including military and civilian are interviewed and their live oral accounts are recorded digitally by a dedicated team. OHPP teams of various eras and sections, either reach out to, or are contacted by veterans for recording their accounts. After conduct of event, preservation of auditory / pictorial material is kept in a central data bank in the form of e-archiving, for current and future researchers. Any veteran can approach AIMH at any time of the year for getting his story recorded at AIMH, from Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Our teams are willing to reach out to those who cannot physically visit AIMH.
